Poker Hand Rankings

Understanding the correct side positions is essential before you begin playing online poker. A standard 52-card deck is used in all online poker games and the four matches all have equivalent value. Below you can find the formal side positions shown in descending order.

Royal Flush
Royal flush consists of an ace, king, queen, jack and ten of the same suit and is the highest possible hand in poker.

Straight Flush
This is the second-best hand and consists of a sequence of five cards of the same suit. When there is more than one straight flush, the one with the higher numerical value prevails.

Four of a Kind
As the name suggests, four of a kind consists of four cards of the same rank.

Full House
Full house comprises three cards of the same rank together with a pair of cards of the same rank. The three cards of the same rank are valued higher than the pair. This means that a hand consisting of three tens and two jacks (10 10 10 J J) beats a hand of three eights and two aces (8 8 8 A A).

Flush
A flush consists of five cards of the same suit, which are not in consecutive numerical order.

Straight
In a straight, the five cards are in consecutive numerical order, but of different suits.

Three of a Kind
Three cards of the same rank form three of a kind.

Two Pairs
In this hand, there are two pairs of cards of the same rank. Between two hands of two pairs, the one with the highest pair is the winner. If the highest pair is the same, the lower pair determines the winner. When both pairs are the same, the hand with the highest fifth card wins.

A Pair
In a pair, there are two cards of the same rank. When there are two hands with the same pair, then the next highest ranking card in the hand determines the winner.

High Card
When there are none of the above winning hands in a game, the hand with the highest-valued card, namely an ace, is the winner.
